Judicial Branch to Hold 'Constitution Day' Student Town Hall on September 17th at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta

Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill and members of the Supreme Judicial Court will conduct a student-teacher town hall on Thursday, September 17, 2026, to commemorate the 239th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
"The Constitution is the bedrock and framework of American democracy," said Chief Justice Stanfill. "It shapes the everyday lives of young Americans, including their individual rights and freedoms, now, and in the future. We hope the student town hall will spark conversation and curiosity about the role and importance of the Constitution in establishing the U.S. as a nation based on the rule of law."
Classes and students are invited to attend and participate by Zoom or in person at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta. Classes wishing to attend in person should RSVP to Julia.Finn@courts.maine.gov by Wednesday, September 16 at 5:00 p.m.
Constitution Day Town Hall at the Capital Judicial Center
When: Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 10:55 a.m. (In person and live via a Zoom webinar. Event will be recorded and posted on the Judicial Branch website.)
Location: Capital Judicial Center, 1 Court Street, Augusta, Maine.
Format: Informal student-teacher Town Hall, with Constitution-related questions from students and teachers.
