Maine eCourts Coming to Augusta, Waterville, and Skowhegan Courts in February 2026
Date: 11/5/2025
The Maine Judicial Branch announced today that the next implementation of Maine eCourts and eFiling is coming to Judicial Region 4, comprising Kennebec County Superior Court, Augusta District Court, Waterville District Court, Somerset County Superior Court, and Skowhegan District Court. All case types -- civil, family, juvenile and criminal cases -- will be included in the transition from paper filing to electronic filing, beginning February 2, 2026. As of that date, all mandatory electronic filers will be required to eFile documents in these courts.
The implementation of Maine eCourts in all case types marks a milestone for the Judicial Branch. The aging electronic docketing system, MEJIS, is outdated and requires the courts to maintain a paper file for each case. Maine eCourts will allow the Judicial Branch to maintain electronic case files, with easier access to court filings by parties, judges, court staff and the public at large.
According to Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill, "The Judicial Branch is now ready to make the transition to Maine eCourts for all case types in all our trial courts. We are bringing our case filing system into the 21st century by converting to electronic case management. We must conduct the conversion on a court-by-court basis; we ask the public for patience as we move through this conversion. We hope to have all trial courts completed by the end of 2026."
Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill also thanked the people who have made this transition possible. "The confidence we have in now increasing the tempo of implementations is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated eFiling team, Region 4 clerks, and our partners in the justice community."
Maine eCourts is a suite of applications and web-based tools provided by Tyler Technologies' Enterprise Justice Software. The system allows for the management of court dockets and hearings, storage of digital case files, eFiling, and online payments. Attorneys, state and local government entities, and those who file more than six cases in a calendar year will be required to eFile when the system launches. Self-represented litigants (parties who do not have attorneys) who file fewer than six cases in a calendar year will not be required to eFile.
