Criminal and Juvenile Case Types Launch as Part of Maine eCourts in Lewiston and Auburn Courts

Date: 6/30/2025

On Monday, June 16th, the Lewiston and Auburn Courts became the first in the state to fully implement all case types in Maine eCourts, replacing the aging MEJIS docketing system and most paper filings in criminal and juvenile cases with the new Maine eCourts case management system. Lewiston District Court and the Androscoggin Superior Court began implementing family and civil cases in 2023, followed by protection order cases in 2024.

The June 16th Maine eCourts go-live included the following installations in the Androscoggin Unified Criminal Docket, Androscoggin Superior Court, and Lewiston District Court:

  • Enterprise Justice Digital Case Management System - for the processing and management of criminal, civil violation, and juvenile cases
  • Warrant, Bail, and Criminal History Records Information (CHRI) integrations
  • eFileMaine for the submission and processing of criminal and juvenile electronic case filings
  • Text Notification Service for adult criminal hearing reminders
  • Maine eCourts Criminal Fines & Fees Payment the new online payment service for criminal fines
  • reSearchMaine for party and public access to electronic files in criminal and juvenile cases
  • Bank Integration a new centralized process to manage bail check disbursements

The go-live in Lewiston and Auburn is a culmination of hard work, dedication, and teamwork from across the Judicial Branchfrom the Androscoggin Clerk's Office, Court Operations, Office of Information Technology, Service Center, and Project Teams. According to Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill, "Introducing criminal and juvenile files into our digital case management is the most complicated roll out that we have had to do. I am grateful for the cooperation of Commissioner Sauschuk and the Department of Public Safety, District Attorney Neil McLean and his colleagues, and the many other system partners who worked to make sure that the roll out went as smoothly as possible. Change is hard, but we can accomplish much when we work together. The success of this roll out means that our goal of having the complete system installed in all courts by the end of 2026 is within reach."

The next step in installing Maine eCourts is to bring the criminal/juvenile package installed in Androscoggin County to the courts in Farmington, Rumford and South Paris. This step is scheduled for September 2025.
