Courthouse Greeter Pilot Program Launching at the York Judicial Center in Biddeford
Date: 4/30/2025
The Maine Judicial Branch is "looking for a few good volunteers" to help launch a pilot program at the York Judicial Center in Biddeford. The goal of the pilot is to help court visitors navigate the courthouse, find the legal resources they need, and be a welcoming presence for visitors.
"The York Judicial Center opened in 2023 and is a beautiful modern courthouse, but it's also big and can be intimidating for people who have never visited it," said Manager of Court Operations for the YJC Julie Howard. "In this pilot program we hope to attract volunteers who are comfortable interacting with the public and who are enthusiastic about helping people get the information and resources they need quickly and with a minimum of stress."
Interested applicants can read the volunteer job description on the Judicial Branch's website and can apply online via a link on the Volunteer & Internship Opportunities section of the Judicial Branch Jobs web page. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check.
"An essential part of access to justice is a welcoming environment for the public to conduct important court business," said State Court Administrator Amy Quinlan. "We are excited to offer this new opportunity for volunteers to help fellow community members while learning about Maine's court system."
