Regarding proposal to limit or prohibit use of IOLTA funds
for legislative lobbying and political candidate advocacy

Monday, March 2, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
in Courtroom 7 of the Capital Judicial Center, Augusta

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court will hold a public hearing to receive oral comments regarding a recent proposal to limit or prohibit the use of court-mandated IOLTA funds for legislative lobbying and political candidate advocacy.

The Chief Justice convened a Working Group to obtain broad-based stakeholder input and analysis of the proposal and to render a report, including the group's recommendations, to inform the court's decision making.  Attorney Taylor Asen chaired the Working Group, and the report was received by the Court in December 2019.

The original proposal, a copy of the IOLTA Working Group charter, and a copy of the Working Group Report and Separate Statements in Non-Concurrence are available at https://www.courts.maine.gov/quick/iolta.
