Court Dates for Cases Involving Traffic Tickets

The schedule for traffic infraction cases in all Maine District Court locations for 2018 is listed in the table below. If you are contesting (disputing) a traffic infraction, you must go to court to do so.

If you plan to contest your traffic infraction or have done so already and not received notice of the date and location of your trial, the following information may be helpful.

Where will my trial be held?

The courthouse for your trial depends on the city or town where the alleged violation occurred. The city or town is on your traffic ticket. To find the right court, check the Find a Courthouse by Town web page.

When you know the court location, (and if you do not already have a court date), you can find a list of all the potential trial dates in each courthouse by checking the table below.

What if I can’t go to court on some of the dates listed in the table?

If you do not already have a court date, and you have a conflict (vacation, job demand, hospitalization, etc.) with one or more of the dates below, please notify the Violations Bureau by submitting this online form. The Violations Bureau will make a reasonable effort to avoid scheduling your case on the date(s) you have identified as having a conflict. However, not all requests can be accommodated.

Can I request another court date if I have received a Notice of Trial?

If you have already received a Notice of Trial and cannot go to court on the date in the Notice, you must file a written request with the court (a “motion”) to postpone the case. You must file your request at least 7 days before your trial date. File with the court at the address shown on your Notice of Trial and send a copy to the Office of the District Attorney who will be prosecuting your case. A list of Maine District Attorneys may be found here.

It is your responsibility to follow up with the court to see if your Motion has been granted or denied. If it is granted, the case will be rescheduled. If your motion is denied, then you must go to court on the scheduled date, or you will lose the case by default.
