Notice Regarding Requests for Records Searches
Important Information Regarding Record Search Processing
A pilot program to process record searches formerly performed by court clerks began on July 1, 2014 in the York County Superior Court in Alfred. The records search procedures have now expanded to include all District and Superior Courts in the State of Maine and the Violations Bureau.
Below is information regarding how the new procedures will affect record searches being requested for all trial courts in Maine:
- All record check requests must be submitted using the Request for Records Search form. Requests submitted using any other form will be returned to the requestor and they will be asked to re-submit the request on the correct form.
- Requests are to be mailed to the Judicial Branch Service Center, PO Box 266, Lewiston, ME 04243. This address is also listed on the form.
- The Service Center is located within the Violations Bureau, located at 85 Park St., Lewiston, ME. If a party or organization prefers to hand deliver the record check request, the form can be brought to the public window at 85 Park St., Lewiston, ME, from 9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Any individual requesting a record search on him or herself may continue to query the court(s) at which the records are located and are exempt from the research fee if they are a party to a case.
